The Effects of Inflammation

Brisbin Family Chiropractic blog about the effects of inflammation on your body

Inflammation affects every part of you

Your body is constantly adapting to everything you do. When you eat foods, your body takes in the nutrients and expels the waste. When you exercise, blood flow increases to the muscles and brain. When you have positive thoughts, your body creates more good hormones and less bad hormones. All of these things have one thing in common; when done properly, they can create a healthy environment free from inflammation (also known as swelling).

The inflammation we talk about here is the internal sort, which means we can’t always see it, but we can see the effects of it. Inflammation is what causes many diseases and disorders to show itself in symptoms.

When your skin breaks out… inflammation. When your fingers get swollen… inflammation. Even when you have a heart attack, the process begins with inflammation of the blood vessel walls.

Every pain in the body can be attributed to inflammation, whether in the tissue or around the nerves. By looking at this, it’s no wonder we must be certain to give our body the best chance at being healthy in order to decrease the inflammation in the body.

Reduce Your Inflammation:

Eat fish, such as salmon, more than 1x/week
Fish contains a high amount of Omega-3 fatty acids, which are required to keep the swelling down in the body. If you cannot eat fish or simply do not like the taste, Omega-3 supplements are a decent substitute.

Inflammation is regulated by omega-3 and omega-6 balance in the body. Omega-3 can be found most commonly in fish and omega-6 is in red meats. In our society, we are typically deficient in omega-3 and have a surplus of omega-6 which causes us to be more prone to inflammation in the body.

Exercise daily
It keeps the blood flowing within the body to help eliminate toxins.

Use proper spinal hygiene
This is the most important and can only be assessed and treated by your chiropractor. Chiropractic care helps to take inflammation away from the nerves which will allow the nerve to heal and work properly. Chiropractic adjustments also improve the full function of the body which will allow the body to absorb nutrients, expel wastes and heal at a proper rate.

In summary
Exercise, proper nutrition and taking omega-3 supplements are the most important things to do in order to keep our inflammatory levels down and our health up. Chiropractic adjustments are also essential to decrease the inflammation in the joints of the spine which in turn improves the function of the entire body.

Remember: your spinal nerves affect every muscle, organ and tissue in your body. You cannot have 100% health if the nerves in your body aren’t working at 100%. Even if we are taking in the proper nutrients, drinking enough water and exercising daily, if your spine is putting pressure on your nerves your body cannot utilize these healthy approaches to its fullest extent. Chiropractic care allows your body to function at its highest potential giving you the best chance to live a happy, healthy lifestyle free from inflammation and dis-ease.
